At Georgetown University Law Center, the addition of two new buildings on the South side of F Street completed the development of this urban campus. The Ginsberg Sports & Fitness Center, the Hotung Library, and the existing Gewirz Dormitory formed a 24,500 square foot courtyard. The resulting courtyard was developed as a campus green. The design creates a lush green space while connecting it back to its urban context.
The edges of the main, paved plaza reflect the architecture of the renovated building with arcing seatwalls. Paving patterns also create interplay with the fenestration of the new architecture at the plaza. The walkways connecting the plaza with the surrounding buildings and city streets employ the concept of pedestrian desire-lines as the basis-of design.
