Dadaochen River Park

Taipei, Taiwan

The design for Dadaochen River Park involves two major river parks, as well as a mural design for the more than 5-kilometer flood wall that runs along the entire length of the Tamsui River. Since the flood wall is experienced closely at the park level as well as from far distances across the river and highway bridges, the mural must function successfully from both ranges.

Drawing on the notion of pixelation, half toning, and pointillism, the mural’s imagery of local Taiwan Opera characters and patterns are revealed when viewed from far distances, while up-close the graphic quality of the points and dots lend a modern aesthetic to the plazas and bike path along the river park.
