In Tenleytown on Wisconsin Avenue, the center courtyard for CityLine was built as the major private outdoor respite—both visual and interactive—for the new residential building built over the existing historic Sears structure. The courtyard was built for visual impact from above, passive recreation, and as a small function space.
A simple palette of colors and materials was employed for high visual impact. Two access points ramp up to the cor-ten steel central box. Barn-red stabilized stone dust paving covers the ground-plane of the center box. Six Gleditsia trees provide a simple canopy of dappled light and shadow.
