The redevelopment of Chevy Chase Center includes over 400,000 sf of new class ‘A’ office and high-end retail space. The design of two major parks serve as public amenities and major focal points for the project as well as the Chevy Chase community.
Located at the corner, Johnston Park acts as a node between the Friendship Heights Metro station, the intersection of Wisconsin Avenue and Wisconsin Circle, and the office and retail at Chevy Chase Center. While the Park responds to observed pedestrian circulation and desire lines, the main focus is a sophisticated palette of materials and patterns, with a sculptural focal point.
Farr Park, was created as a pocket-park along the main retail portion on Wisconsin Avenue. The park’s minimalist layout is punctuated by the center fountain and sculpture overlay. A bosque of Gleditsia trees bring dappled light into the space as the fountain’s low rumble of water softly bounces the sound of water back-and-forth within the space.
